Second year now! Yeeeew
Holy shit, it's been a year. I have neglected you, my little blog.. I apologise.
Right now I am a second year. I am also, at this moment, sitting on my warm floor (it's a korean thing), with my laptop on my balls, contemplating the supreme return of my mojo. Yes, it's back.
A memorable week has been had since the repression ofmemories of BGDA EOC and prac exams last week.. so here they are:
1. Exams have finished. For three weeks, awethome will reign, as long as people aren't too cold.
2. End of session party. Fucking failure, I lost my leather jacket, and Korea lost to Uruguay - on the same night. It's ridiculous. I better get some intense karmic compensation.
3. Fishing - it has been too cold to fish, will update soon. (lol we all know I will not update soon)
4. FLOW Fridays.. Yep, it's official, I have my mojo back. Thrice the mojo I had before. Yep, no further comments.
5. It's so fucking cold! My parents didn't immigrate from Korea to Australia to freeze their skins off, it's just tragic.
On a final note, AMSA 2010 begins on monday. Hung, C Josh, Vaz, Mihir, ALBERT KIM (hehe), will all be on the prowl for some delicious punani in the bastard state.. My fondest farewells, best of luck, prospective congratulatory high 5's, condolences to livers, and "omg you hooked up with HER? how drunk were you?!" go to them all.
Have a great one guyth!

BGDB
ok results are out, so this will be a quick summary of academic life. the comments for the assignments seemed a lil condescending =P or maybe it was just me...
flat Ps for every criteria for both group and individual assignments. there were various bits a pieces that were off, but i guess the main thing for me was that i needed to add more to my part, rather than worrying about the word limit so much so early. i thort it would save time for later, which it did, but there wasnt enough depth in our report so i might as well leave everything in, and hope someone else can help me out next time to re-word it to make it more concise. also our reflection was kinda shotty, but that was mainly because we rushed it and forgot to read the assignment properly =P so that can be changed pretty easily next time.
individual made me realise that i cannot pull off the smart-ass style of assignmenting. i got shut down in a few parts for putting in the wrong information, believing that it was a super complicated way of explaining a relatively simple concept xP never again! lol. if i didnt freak out so much over the last week or so of the assignment, then i probably wouldnt have gotten a beat down, but oh well... still got solid marks for it =]
ive resigned to the fact that it is impossible for me to get a P+ in any assignments... i just cant do it. i either forget something, or i cant articulate it properly so it comes across very retardedly. oh well... hopefully il get better as we go on, but im not holding my breath =P and im not going for honours mostly because of the inordinate amount of effort required to be put into these assignments. sure theyre interesting, but theyre a bloody pain in the ass. il just keep concentrating on the tests since theres a greater sense of accomplishment =]
ok thats it. bye
BGDB: 86.341269841269835
-why are there so many decimal places? it just seems unnecessary considering it was 1 test =P

Today
Well, i crashed my car yesterday. I was coming home from work, and i was on the phone and going at 40km/h on burwood road when... bang. Yeah.
You could understand that i was a bit depressed today, but i had dinner with Joseph Park, Joseph Kim, and Joshua 'Chinese' Kim today, it was pretty good. Had some korean bbq, one or two bottles of soju (lol) and finished with some K.
All in all, it's been a rollercoaster of emotion for me the following few days, and i'm still enjoying the holidays. Thinking about organising a fishing trip/picnic at either Shell Harbour or Stanwell Tops.. anyone got any good fishing spots that are less than 3 hour drive from Sydney?
Have a good one!

Success
Before the party, everyone was talking about how awesomely drunk they were going to get, and how "if i don't boot by the end of the night, that's a failure".
Yeah, end of sesh party was decent.. but not GREAT.
I woke up at 3 in the arvo.. and am sort of hungover, probably because i succeeded. Yeah that's right, i chucked at strathfield, i'm a champion.
Currently trying to find a way to crash the USyd Law Informal Party, but with not much success.
PS - my heart goes out to jake who lost his wallet on the day he finished. by the looks of it, it's up in port macquarie somewhere, but let's just hope for a miracle (recall the scrubs episode when Carla's pregnant, and Turk forgets her bag, and then a dog carries it to him)

End of Session =]
im currently in mild rage mode, but more on that later xP
end of BGD cycle B!! hopefully =P the test was actually pretty hectic, mainly because i didnt know what was relevant, and what wasnt... so i pretty much brain dumped on most of the short answer questions. EXCEPT stupid depression xP like wtf?! i had to make up random questions to ask the sussed lil year 12 student =\ i would have thought that concerns clinical skills and communication more than what we've actually learnt.. but oh well... i probably should have done the prac more thoroughly... lesson learnt for subsequent TPs =]
multiple choice wasnt that bad... but i probably made some stupid mistakes. I didnt get the chance to check my answers properly. oh well... its over =] i cbb ranting on about it anymore in this blog. dont really see the point =P
omg it was such a relief finishing the exam tho... once we were out, the sense of relief was superb! considering the amount of effort i put into the bloody course, it was a big deal for me xP time for a self-plug xD about... there were about 1050 downloads of my notes, which equates to about... 150 people per week. i must say its a pretty decent number considering theres about 550 people in the cohort =] the support by the people was muchly appreciated on my part =] thanks guys!
anyway, i went home after the exam. not straight after. i chilled at unibar for a while. then i jetted home and ended up staying home for about an hr n half before having to head off again to get to jess's place for pres xP funny funny times =]
we ended up getting to bungalo 8 at about... 8:30? which was an hr after the start time, but the place was still half-empty.. lol we thort we were excessively late, but apparently not! anyway... i eventually got sloshed spending a good 70 bux on drinks on top of pres... also getting a few shouts off people =D thanks guys! all adding up to about.. 15 drinks? respectable considering i hadnt had a drink in 2 months =P
anyway, im too tired to epic rage, so all il say is that im sick of chasing, like fucking seriously. i dont have enough effort to spare to continue, so ive given up! =] if u know me well enough, ull know what im talking about (actually u dont need to know me that well, its quite blatantly obvious xP)
im out. bye.

EXAM!! ahhhh!! only one week away... the dreaded EoC which is worth 100%. dreaded for all first years only of course, 2nd years already know what to expect. us lil ones are plain and simply shitting and pissing ourselves, which is very odd considering those two go against the sympathetic nervous system in a fight or flight situation =P *sigh* med is really engulfing my life now xD
today ive decided to take the night off because we finished our course work for the session!! yay!! no more extra shit to learn =] win! but the amount of stuff we already have is... =\ lose! oh well.. we finished off on a relatively good note today... female sexuality ;) but then the other boring dude did the male sexuality lecture... if only he was as eccentric as Ute and the other lady.. could have been a classic. oh well... the female one was very awkward, but very informative if u know what i mean ;) from this experience, i must say that all doctors MUST be incredibly good at sex considering they all should know the best ways to stimulate the opposite sex.
we learnt... that females also have erectile tissue, testosterone is the hormone which increases sex drive in both sexes, there IS such thing as female orgasmic fluid AND the most important of all... where the G-spot is.. lol! but for all the self-conscious guys out there... 30% of women cannot have an orgasm with their partner, but 85% of those can by themselves... which is very odd. so it may not be your fault... but probably is =P also... the inner 2/3 of the vagina is anesthetic so theres no point in investing in giant dildos xP
well thats all that i will share for now.. trying to remember all the other good stuff. oh well.. im out =] bye bye

At home...
I quit facebook. Until the 25th of June, i will endeavor to not use the words 'face' and 'book' in my vocabulary, and will probably rage if someone links me a funny photo on facebook. But lo and behold, the human condition of perseverance is strong in me - eliminating facebook as my primary source of procrastination has lead me to make an unnecessary blog post.. FML
So yeah, i'm at home right now writing up notes on the effects of GH, Sex steroids, Thyroid hormones, Insulin, and Adrenocorticols on growth. I am aware i am severely behind, but at least my assignment and project are done. I missed today's physiology/anatomy of reproductive growth lectures because i slept in FML. Hung, can you give me notes?
I will now get back to my studies.. but i'll start a list of the funniest words i have encountered in med:
- Gubernaculum
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Dilate (to live long)
- Benign (what happens when you're older than 8 but younger than 10)
The following have been reported to have been written on patients' medical charts by doctors:
- CNS/QNS (Central Nervous System / Quantity Not Sufficient)
- Code Yellow (A patient who has lost control of bladder)
- O-sign (A patient who is very sick and lying with his mouth open)
- Q-sign (A patient who is very, very sick and lying with his mouth open, tongue hanging out)
- FUBAR (Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition)
- FLK (Funny Looking Kid - Abnormal neonate upon general inspection)
- TTFO (Told To Fuck Off - can be To Take Fluids Orally)

Quick Update
i just dl a massive collection of Cascada remixes, and im trying to pick out which ones are the crap ones to take out of my playlist atm, so while im doing that i thort id finally post again =] *its a really good collection with about 75 remixes for any dance-music enthusiasts*
anyway, this is our hand-in assessment week. group project deadline tomorrow, individual assignment due next monday. everything is pretty much under control for me, but things keep popping up with my indiv >< had to change things like 6 diff times because i missed the fine print in the damn assignment =_= but i must thank nitin for his help =] thanks pharlap! =D
the long weekend was pretty fail =P wanted to get more proper study done, but all i could get was the GIT. hopefully it wont leak out over the next couple weeks, but thats where study groups come in handy =] i hate having to suffer an extra 2 weeks of work in the semester compared to everyone else =_= the amount of crap we're going to learn within these two weeks is probably going to add another 40 pages to my already extensive notes >< ah well... gotta tough it out. and the single exam we have is going to be bloody intense. 100% for the course! bahhh... hopefully i do well. oh well, nothing i can do besides give it my best shot.
i forget what i posted last time, and what i wanted to post in between, but nothing interesting has really happened since my last one. i cant wait til holidays tho, finally get some partying action going on. since the start of the TP ive been nerding it up hardcore =_= better bloody pay off =P anyway, il end it with... GO FEDERER!! =]
bye bye
and good luck to practically everyone else in uni life with their end of session/semester exams! dont party too hard until i finish too xP

It's tough being a med student
It sure is tough when you have Larsen's Human Embryology open in front of you and the only thing that you've been doing in the past 20 minutes is reading the same paragraph over and over again.
It sure is tough when you decide that you'll stretch your limbs and take a breather or maybe have a smoke outside and then come back and turn on your TURBO-MODE.
It sure is tough when you sit down at your desk after your smoke and then realise you're studying has meant that you couldn't go out with your mate, and so you go on facebook to see what else everyone is doing and what events are on.
It sure is tough when you look at your event invitations and you see the guestlist and you know how facebook shows you the display pics of like 6-7 people that are attending and they all happen to be going to a mad event that you decided not to go to so you can catch up on some ion transfer and nutritional demands of children.
It sure is tough when all 6-7 of them are hot girls.
It sure is tough when you look outside and - WTF OHSHIT - it's already dark, and you realise that you've been on facebook for a good 2-3 hours.. but that's ok because i now have a new Bejeweled high score.
It sure is tough when you finally decide to read Larsen's Human Embryology... and you're back at that stupid paragraph that you read over and over again. Right where you left it.

Binge Nerding
Otherwise known as cramming, binge-nerding happens when a student comes to the sudden realisation that the amount of study they have previously undertaken is severely below the standard at which they would expect to perform, and is often associated with late night consumption of caffeine, abstinence from fun activities, and general anti social behaviour.
I WISH I COULD BINGE NERD.
The readers who have been with this blog for a longer time probably know that my aim in BGD was to have everything under control, making daily notes and shit like that... well it's been two weeks and i'm fucking screwed. Every friday night i think to myself, 'in the next three days i'll get everything under control', and look what has happened - twice. I get a high score in Bejeweled, i go out to integration party, havana, and a fucking 18th in castle hill... oh man.
I need to get my HSC mojo back on. I wish i was Hung.

Finally Posting Again =]
med is fun =] everything seems to be going quite well concerning med =P other matters are not of blogging concern xP the stuff that we're learning now is pretty interesting, concerning the development of infants. stuff about cognitive development is cool, i can now blame my parents for my hate of certain foods because it was their fault for not introducing them to me when i was starting out on solid foods!
anyway, all the work isnt THAT much of a problem yet, but i think im going to struggle this week coz its a bit hectic.
We had our first proper hospital session last week =D i was anticipating awesomeness... but i didnt get it =[ i wanted to see patients!!! but noooo.. our tutor was like.. whats the point??? u dont know anything xP which is very true, but still!! its like a rite of passage for us! and he denied us of the experience! =[ oh well, we'll push the patient seeing on him next time =]
nothing much else has happened concerning the academic aspect of uni...
MED REVUE!! was quite funny... it was like team america funny xP so offensive but hilarious at times... other times it was a bit awkward =P good old racist jokes... from the people i talked to, we agreed that the catholic people copped the most xP ahh... def watching next year's rendition. everyone else should too!
INTEGRATION PARTY!! was pretty good =] when med people party, they party hard =] decent turn-out considering underaged people and non-drinkers, but the bar tab was a farce!! seriously!! one drink each?? boooooo!! and i used it on a coke n vodka =[ big mistake because they were going for about 4 bux each, but my next drink was a cok and malibu... absolutely beautiful drink... which cost me 8 bux.. during happy hour... if only i had noticed they had malibu before =_= far out!! =[
well.. i spent quite a large amount of money on drinks xP massive regret because i didnt get drunk xP incredibly hard to do so nowadays =[ nothing embarassing as a result, but a few stories that came from the night which i will disclose to people at avi's, if not then strike up a convo with me sometime later and i will =]
anyway, im off... bye bye

well.. i spent quite a large amount of money on drinks xP massive regret because i didnt get drunk xP incredibly hard to do so nowadays =[ nothing embarassing as a result, but a few stories that came from the night which i will disclose to people at avi's, if not then strike up a convo with me sometime later and i will =]
anyway, im off... bye bye

Histology
Histology is the study of cells and tissue on a microscopic level. It's like microscopic anatomy.
Only today did I realise that it is possibly the only subject where you will hear someone mutter 'that's what she said' every two or three minutes.
"I've been at it for 5 hours..."
"I'm looking for the small, wrinkled ones."
"I can't find it, it's too small!"
"Here's a whole bunch of them, see these big blobs, all surrounding that tiny little blob in the middle."
Ok that last one doesn't really work, but it reminded me of gang rape.

Once upon a time, i was a single cell.
It's true, my name was zygote.
The first day of BGD has passed, and my lord what a hectic day it has been. From 9 in the morning til 5 in the arvo, all i've been learning about is how gastrulation occurs in the embryonic stage. I'm not complaining though, it's easy enough to grasp once you sit down and think it through.
Anyway, i'm writing up my notes for it at the moment, so i guess i'll just say my day was really shit since i have a cold, my parents aren't home (for the next month - who's going to cook me dinner and iron my shirts?), and my haircut is fucking toolesque.
Back to the zona pelucida.

Dragon Spawn
This is what i learnt today in senior first aid - one of the methods of treating anaphylactic shock.
If the sperm of a dragon, a unicorn, a centaur, and a tyrannosaurus rex were to somehow FUSE to produce a single offspring, that offspring would be composed of a raw substance only commercially obtainable by harvesting the glands of 69 of these mutant offspring and distilling the glands into a pure form of liquid in a mixer made of a titanium-adamantium-awesomium alloy. This liquid fury would then be pressurized into a single atom by the Large Hadron Collider and then launched into deep outer space to absorb the energy of an exploding star, by which it would have barely sufficient energy to be turned back into a liquid essence, which is then captured by aerospace experts and placed into EpiPens.
These EpiPens give the user a 0.3 mg boost of adrenaline - otherwise known as dragon-spawn, superhuman juice (Hulk Potion), or the Philosopher's Stone - which enables him or her to ascend into the transient state where demigods reign, and are able to party all night and feel like they have popped three pingers without the associated feelings of coming down, munting and scat.
Today the point was raised that the reason for Ryan 'Korean Elvis' Kwen being in the zone every hour, every day, every week was that he has somehow managed to get his hands on an inestimable stash of EpiPens.
I want in. I want an EpiPens before a hard night out on the town.

Time to join the big boys
This post is dedicated to Preetpaul Uppal, possibly the best/worst wingman i know. He's a paradoxical wingman.
For the first hour or two at a club on a friday night, my friend prego pumped me full of $5 jager bombs and endless pep-talk about how easy it is for an ethnic pair (harold and kumar) to pick up white chicks at soho.. fucking epic fail.
Anyway yeah, this is a shoutout to you, bro. Even though we didn't get any white chicks, i half succeeded, and you will forever be remembered as the wingman who made me choose bros before hoes.
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah, so we're about 3-4 days out from the start of BGD (Beginnings, Growth, and Development) and i'm feeling pretty pumped. The other day, i bumped into a primary school friend who, upon hearing that i was a med student at UNSW, laughed for like 10 seconds then asked: "no... but seriously". This fresh start to the medicine course (that counts) is a way for me to prove that i'm not as dumb as i am awesome - and trust me, i am awesome.
Here are my goals for this teaching period:
- P+'s, with room for a single P
- Get the name of that hot korean second year
- Not go clubbing (unless it's free entry... oy my gahh i have like $22 in my account.)
Here are my goals for the rest of the course:
- Honours list
- A reputation as "the incredibly smart but incredibly awesome guy"
- A white chick (not realistic)
Ciao!

End of Foundations =[
This is definitely not a time to celebrate =P the course that doesnt count is over!! =[ very gay
Our timetable for the next course came out today... i have an incredibly shit one... like seriously, it is beyond atrocious. NO DAYS OFF!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! they havnt included the lectures yet, but when they do.. ='[ the amount of time we spend at uni is quite consistent tho, its around 18-20 hrs a week. like 6 hrs more than what we're used to =_= GAY! and every second day i have during the week is a 2 hr day =_= and 4 hour breaks come every fortnight or so for me.. bahhh!! i need a laptop, itl make life easier to do work during breaks. oh well.. hopefully its true that college A gets a better timetable next semester, if we dont.. im going to rage like a lil mofo on crack... seriously >=[ we dont evn go to the hospitals this teaching period!! very disappointing, but we have more clinical sessions, which i suppose is a decent substitute considering we still dont know anything yet.
urgh, anyway... we join the second years next week. i dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing yet. hopefully i hav a cool group, otherwise im definitely changing for next semester. hopefully theyre so insecure about our work quality that theyll pretty much do everything =D
The amount of effort i put into foundations did actually pay off, because now i know how hard i need to work to pass and how much more work i need to do to actually do very well. i put about.. 60% of my total effort capacity into the course so many improvements to come, but i dont think i need to go nuts until about 3rd or 4th year coz my view is that u need a good record over the last few years of ur course so that when employers look at it, they can see that u didnt fluke the last year or 2, there will be a sustained effort and they should accept u =] so for the next year or 2 i suppose il aim for consistent Ps (or a credit average) =] years 3-6 would have much more interesting stuff anyway so it wont be that hard to add the extra effort.
anyway, first aid course on thursday and friday.. i wish i had renewed my one from year 9.. would have given me a 6-day weekend =_= dammit... oh well.. thats all for foundations =] i was going to talk about my assessments and what not, but i cbb... nothing wrong with them, everything fit the criteria to get Ps for everything. getting a P+ seems incredibly annoying to do. oh well, im out =] il post again when uni life starts getting shit =P
oh! and i also would like to mention... AHAHAHAHAHAHA NEW ORLEANS SUCK!! hahahaha who loses by 58 points in a playoff game???? like seriously?? AND at home!! man.. the crowd would have been giving shit to their own team... ahahahaha!! gw denver =D utter humiliation!

First Clinical Session! Sorry Lorraine!! and the others in the crew!! xP
Finally back after a long absence. This will be the first of a series over the next couple of days =]
Anyway, I'll start with this morning when I was madly fretting about making sure I looked proper for our clinical session and ended up running a little late. I was running around the house looking for various items, and seemed to leave the house just in time to catch my train. When mum drove off from the station after dropping me off, I immediately realised that I had forgotten to bring the apparently crucial immunisation record card. The guy at the Office of the Dean said that SWS would be quite strict about it and I should make sure that I brought it... but stupid me I didnt xP so at this point I was shitting myself, freaking out and trying to think of what to do. So that was when I asked the greatest person in the world, Lorraine xP, if we could swing by my place before we went to pick up my card. The awesomest person that she is, she agreed =] and I was very relieved =].
Then I got to uni apparently looking spiffy xP and not awkward like Josh =P. Anyway, we then headed off to Arthur St, to do the introductory clinical skills session. This wasn't very eventful, just learnt about the different aspects of disease and illness. Never thought about it in that sort of light before. Well, after this was the epic trip xP.
Ok, so it started at the maccas down at Kingsford where we all met up at like 11:15 before heading off in Lorraine's car. I shouted her a bit of lunch for the effort she was going through for me =] I still owe her so much more xP anyway, it was me, rola, jia qi, jim n lorraine in the car and we set off. Now, I only knew the way to my place from the M4 or the M7, and according to the map we had, the most direct way to the M4 was via Anzac then Cleveland, then onto parramatta road. Parramatta road was an absolute bitch to get through because of traffic. I thought this entire trip would take about 40 mins or so to my house... but anyway, we eventually got to the M4 and we kept going all the way to wallgrove. Swung by my place and by that time, it was about 12:40 xP almost an hr n a half since we left uni =_=
Anyway, it was like a toilet break pretty much, I was busting to go xP Rola and Lorraine had some face time with Hooch, the most crazy dog they will ever meet xP It did Rola's hate of dogs any justice =P I still love Hooch tho =] anyway, we then headed off after a quick stop, onto the M7 then down to elizabeth drive n then all the way to liverpool hospital, with a minor detour looking for parking spaces. Then we all showed up about 25 mins late to the tiny classroom xP our entrance was very noticable =P. So we're just listening to the people talk through the guidelines n whatnot... signed a few forms... n then went on the tour of certain wards. We went through the trauma ward with a patient that had a massive motor collision that was in the news i think, and they had police and a detective there too to get a statement. pretty intense. At this point I felt like a proper med student.. finally!! =] then we went to the cardiology ward and just looked at how the system worked. Then we were done!! after about 2 hrs... and oh yes... as u may hav noticed... WE DIDNT NEED THE DAMN CARD!!
URGH!! i was so pissed =_= made me even more guilty for wasting everyone, especially Lorraine's time n effort!! baaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh... If by chance u heard about this blog and are reading this.. i must say sorry again lorraine!! xP urgh.. i feel so bad =_= and then wen i got home via trains, it was about 5 o'clock?? i went on facebook and discovered that it took Lorraine 35 mins to get home from liverpool... she lives in north sydney... i was like. :O wtf?! n apparently it would have taken 20 mins max from uni via the M5 =_= baaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!! at that point i felt like total shit xP I am forever in debt to Lorraine xP sorry again!! ahhhhhhh!! gay gay gay... well im off to feel more guilty xP
I know this was meant to be short prego but i couldnt help it xP
