It's tough being a med student

It sure is tough when you have Larsen's Human Embryology open in front of you and the only thing that you've been doing in the past 20 minutes is reading the same paragraph over and over again.

It sure is tough when you decide that you'll stretch your limbs and take a breather or maybe have a smoke outside and then come back and turn on your TURBO-MODE.

It sure is tough when you sit down at your desk after your smoke and then realise you're studying has meant that you couldn't go out with your mate, and so you go on facebook to see what else everyone is doing and what events are on.

It sure is tough when you look at your event invitations and you see the guestlist and you know how facebook shows you the display pics of like 6-7 people that are attending and they all happen to be going to a mad event that you decided not to go to so you can catch up on some ion transfer and nutritional demands of children.

It sure is tough when all 6-7 of them are hot girls.

It sure is tough when you look outside and - WTF OHSHIT - it's already dark, and you realise that you've been on facebook for a good 2-3 hours.. but that's ok because i now have a new Bejeweled high score.

It sure is tough when you finally decide to read Larsen's Human Embryology... and you're back at that stupid paragraph that you read over and over again. Right where you left it.

Binge Nerding

Otherwise known as cramming, binge-nerding happens when a student comes to the sudden realisation that the amount of study they have previously undertaken is severely below the standard at which they would expect to perform, and is often associated with late night consumption of caffeine, abstinence from fun activities, and general anti social behaviour.

I WISH I COULD BINGE NERD.

The readers who have been with this blog for a longer time probably know that my aim in BGD was to have everything under control, making daily notes and shit like that... well it's been two weeks and i'm fucking screwed. Every friday night i think to myself, 'in the next three days i'll get everything under control', and look what has happened - twice. I get a high score in Bejeweled, i go out to integration party, havana, and a fucking 18th in castle hill... oh man.

I need to get my HSC mojo back on. I wish i was Hung.

Finally Posting Again =]

med is fun =] everything seems to be going quite well concerning med =P other matters are not of blogging concern xP the stuff that we're learning now is pretty interesting, concerning the development of infants. stuff about cognitive development is cool, i can now blame my parents for my hate of certain foods because it was their fault for not introducing them to me when i was starting out on solid foods!

anyway, all the work isnt THAT much of a problem yet, but i think im going to struggle this week coz its a bit hectic.

We had our first proper hospital session last week =D i was anticipating awesomeness... but i didnt get it =[ i wanted to see patients!!! but noooo.. our tutor was like.. whats the point??? u dont know anything xP which is very true, but still!! its like a rite of passage for us! and he denied us of the experience! =[ oh well, we'll push the patient seeing on him next time =]

nothing much else has happened concerning the academic aspect of uni...

MED REVUE!! was quite funny... it was like team america funny xP so offensive but hilarious at times... other times it was a bit awkward =P good old racist jokes... from the people i talked to, we agreed that the catholic people copped the most xP ahh... def watching next year's rendition. everyone else should too!

INTEGRATION PARTY!! was pretty good =] when med people party, they party hard =] decent turn-out considering underaged people and non-drinkers, but the bar tab was a farce!! seriously!! one drink each?? boooooo!! and i used it on a coke n vodka =[ big mistake because they were going for about 4 bux each, but my next drink was a cok and malibu... absolutely beautiful drink... which cost me 8 bux.. during happy hour... if only i had noticed they had malibu before =_= far out!! =[

well.. i spent quite a large amount of money on drinks xP massive regret because i didnt get drunk xP incredibly hard to do so nowadays =[ nothing embarassing as a result, but a few stories that came from the night which i will disclose to people at avi's, if not then strike up a convo with me sometime later and i will =]

anyway, im off... bye bye

Histology

Histology is the study of cells and tissue on a microscopic level. It's like microscopic anatomy.

Only today did I realise that it is possibly the only subject where you will hear someone mutter 'that's what she said' every two or three minutes.

"I've been at it for 5 hours..."

"I'm looking for the small, wrinkled ones."

"I can't find it, it's too small!"

"Here's a whole bunch of them, see these big blobs, all surrounding that tiny little blob in the middle."

Ok that last one doesn't really work, but it reminded me of gang rape.

Once upon a time, i was a single cell.

It's true, my name was zygote.

The first day of BGD has passed, and my lord what a hectic day it has been. From 9 in the morning til 5 in the arvo, all i've been learning about is how gastrulation occurs in the embryonic stage. I'm not complaining though, it's easy enough to grasp once you sit down and think it through.

Anyway, i'm writing up my notes for it at the moment, so i guess i'll just say my day was really shit since i have a cold, my parents aren't home (for the next month - who's going to cook me dinner and iron my shirts?), and my haircut is fucking toolesque.

Back to the zona pelucida.
